COLLABS Pilot Study Details

UPDATE ON COLLABS Project:

We are in the final follow up stage of our "Legal Care Checkup" Project. The poster above was presented the 2025 ASCO Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium with a write up included in the January 27, 2025 edition of The Journal of Clinical Oncology. We have learned so much from our patient-clients during the study and look forward to sharing more details as the study concludes later this spring.

How and Why the COLLABS project started:

One clear message from our clients in our comprehensive 2023 survey, was the need to learn about Cancer Legal Care earlier in their cancer journey, preferably at the time of diagnosis or at the start of treatment.

One clear message from our clients in our comprehensive 2023 survey, was the need to learn about Cancer Legal Care earlier in their cancer journey, preferably at the time of diagnosis or at the start of treatment.

In spring 2024, we will put this learning into action with a pilot study on the impact of an early legal care intervention. The pilot is possible thanks to the efforts of Arjun Gupta, MBBS, and his team at the University of Minnesota, and funding from the Minnesota Colon Cancer Research Foundation, and will provide for a "Legal Care Checkup" for newly diagnosed colon cancer patients as part of their standard treatment plan. The video clip above features Dr. Gupta talking about this exciting work as he accepted the Sarah DeBord Memorial Grant at the MCCRF Gala on February 3, 2024.

We look forward to sharing the findings of the COLorectal Cancer Legal and Administrative Burden Support (COLLABS) pilot later this year.
