You may be thinking: "Whose stories are you looking for?" What's involved?" "Is this another 'drive thru' project where outsiders come in and don't come back?"
These are real and valid questions in our community and they deserve answers!

Here are some answers:
During the months of October 2024-December 2024: We are looking for self-identified Black/African-American people who are:

  • Nurses who care for patients throughout the cancer care continuum.
  • People over the age of 18 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer (regardless of your stage, or choices around treatment).
  • Loved ones (related by blood or by choice) who are currently supporting someone with breast cancer.

What's involved?  If this sounds like you, then:

  • You can text/call/email Dr. Johnson to learn more before you decide.
  • You can set up an appointment for a recorded 45 minute call about the day-to-day topics that Black cancer patients (and their caregivers) think about before, during, and after active treatment.
  • You will receive a gift card to honor your time and contribution.

What happens next? Is this another project where they take our stories and run?  No!

During January-May 2025:

  • Dr. Johnson will quilt together a series of stories about our experiences (your identifying information will not be included).***
  • You will get invited to one of a couple of Cookouts in Spring or Early Summer 2025 to hear how we're understanding your story and how it will inform CLC's journey.
  • Your stories will also inform CLC's next steps in our relationship with you.

***Important things to know***

  • Our recorded conversations will be securely stored and will be only used for the purpose of this improvement project.
  • Your responses will be de-identified (made anonymous) before they are shared with the CLC team.
  • Participation is completely voluntary and you can withdraw at any time.
  • Participation in this project (or not participating in the project) will not affect any treatments or services you are currently or may receive from CLC or any of its partners.
