Financial Assistance for Medical Expenses

Each of the programs is different and has different eligibility criteria, but the following information will most likely be required by each and may be helpful for you to gather as you begin your inquiry:

  1. Your doctor's name and contact information (most programs require your doctor or health care provider's assistance).
  2. The name and manufacturer of the medication(s) you are taking.
  3. Your financial information including, proof of income, tax returns, social security income etc.  Some programs require meeting specific low-income guidelines, others look to total health care costs compared to income/family size/living expenses.

Financial Assistance for Medical Bills, Insurance Premiums and Co-Pays

The non-profit organizations listed below help with specific diseases and/or medications. 

  • This national organization has several different programs that assist survivors with financial issues.

  • Assistance for cost of garments. May apply online or call 510-208-3200 for more information.

  • Provides information on Patient Assistance Programs and has information on specific programs as well.

  • This program is designed to provide financial assistance to patients to cover out-of-pocket expenses associated with prescription drugs for qualifying diseases.

  • An information source where you can find medication and financial assistance links. It has a lot of helpful local and national assistance information for cancer specifically.

  • Provides co-pay assistance to those who already have some form of medical insurance. Eligibility is NOT income dependent, but based on a comprehensive financial assessment of how much income is going toward medical bills. Applications are taken on the first business day of the month by calling 1-866-512-3861. Check the website to see if your particular cancer is covered, and know that new diagnoses are added on an ongoing basis. Chemotherapy and other medications are covered for certain types of cancer.

  • PSI offers co-pay assistance for specific types of cancer. They can be contacted at 1-800-366-7741 or by clicking on the link above. Eligibility is based on an overall assessment of a patient's financial income and medical expenses. PSA can also help eligible people with costs for COBRA or other insurance coverage.

  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Co-Pay Assistance Program offers assistance to patients with lymphoma, myeloma, AML, CLL, Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, and MDS who are at or within 500% of the federal poverty level. It offers assistance to patients toward private health insurance premiums, private insurance co-pay obligations as well as Medicare Part B or D, Medicare Supplementary Health Insurance and Medicare Advantage.   • Caring Voice offers insurance reimbursement and financial assistance for eligible persons dealing with particular diseases, as well as general support services.

  • Provides assistance for co-pay, insurance premium and other out-of-pocket health care costs for those with specific diseases who meet certain financial eligibility requirements.

  • Their mission is to increase awareness of patient assistance programs and boost enrollment of those who are eligible. They can help in directing you to one of 475 different patient assistance programs for prescription assistance and also work with people who need co-pay assistance. They can be reached at 888-477-2669.

The following companies offer various programs to assist those using the medications they manufacture:

  • Amgen's Patient Assistance and Oncology Assistance programs provide several assistance programs. Their program specialists can be reached at 800-272-9376

  • The Bristol-Myers Squibb Patient Assistance Foundation may be able to help you get assistance with your medications if you have a financial hardship. The Foundation can be reached at 800-736-0003.

  • Genentech's Single Point of Contact is a reimbursement resource for Genentech products, providing information to patients and health care providers. The support line for the Single Point of Contact program is 888-249-4918.

  • GSK's Commitment to Access program provides free GSK oncology medicines to eligible low-income patients without prescription drug benefits. Their website contains specific eligibility criteria and they can be reached at 866-265-6491.

  • The Lilly Cares program provides assistance for patients who are uninsured and whose incomes are less than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. For more information call 800-545-6962.

  • Pfizer has many different programs available to help those in need. The specific program for cancer patients is called FirstResource and they can be reached at 877-744-5675 and they work with both insured and uninsured patients using their products.
