Introducing CLC’s Lunch and Learn Series on Common Misconceptions about Cancer and SSDI/SSI
In January 2023, Cancer Legal Care launched its Social Security Application Assistance Program with the goal of reducing barriers to cancer patients applying for Social Security benefits. It the first year of the program, CLC staff helped over 240 cancer patients with Social Security related legal issues. We answered hundreds of questions to help cancer patients and caregivers better understand the many complex issues that arise when applying for benefits. And we learned a lot about what we can do to improve this vital service for Minnesota’s cancer community.
Many cancer patients and caregivers came to us with a misunderstanding about Social Security benefits and the application process. And we get it. This stuff is complicated. It is not easy. We are here to help. CLC attorneys will be hosting a series of 30-minute lunch and learns on common misconceptions about Social Security and Cancer.
It is our hope that these learning opportunities will provide cancer patients, caregivers, social workers, providers, and advocates the information they need to better understand Social Security’s disability programs.

About CLC’s Social Security Application Assistance Program:
The high cost of treatment combined with an inability to work impacts a cancer patient’s economic security. To help address this Cancer Legal Care created the Social Security Application Assistance Program. The program reduces barriers to disabled cancer patients applying for Social Security benefits.
Cancer Legal Care provides advocacy and guidance from the start of the application process until our clients receive their first payment. Our services are free. Cancer Legal Care does not collect a fee from our client’s benefits.
If you have questions about Social Security benefits or need help applying, contact Cancer Legal Care to see if you are eligible for this service. For help, call 651-917-9000 or email help@cancerlegalcare.org.
